Glossary of Terms

Often, we are asked to explain the medical jargon that we inadvertently use in our podcasts and videos. We have not only embedded these wherever we speak of them, but also added them in this central place. Here, you will find medical terms, names of diseases and laboratory tests.

As we use the terms, we will add them here, therefore please keep this page handy and do visit it often to see if there is anything that has changed. Of course, if you would like to add anything else to this list, please do let us know.

Kerala-style "Chicken" Meatball Curry

A flavorful, nutty dish– a bit time consuming but well worth the wait! I used a ground meat substitute, but it can of course be made with ground chik’n or lamb instead.   Ingredients: — for the meatballs — 1 lb ground meat (I use Gimme Lean) 2 eggs, beaten 2-3 minced green chillis 1/2 […]

"Pork-less" Vindaloo!

A tangy, spicy, and quick Goan dinner! You can, of course, substitute the meatless for real pork or lamb- which should make it a much richer (and tastier to some) dish! Ingredients: 1lb (2 bags) of thawed Gardein brand “Beefless Tips” 2 large onions, roughly chopped 3 medium tomatoes, roughly chopped (I would suggest […]

Browned-butter sage sauce

This post is more about the sauce than the final product. Uses only 4 ingredients and the final result is wonderful when used with stuffed pasta (like ravioli and tortellini) as well as potato-based pasta such as gnocchi.   Ingredients: – 4T softened vegan butter – 2T cold vegan butter – 2T sage, chopped – […]

Rice Flour Pollo

Ingredients: 1 cup rice flour 1/2 large yellow onion, finely chopped 2 TBSP rava 1 TSP jeera seeds 3 small hot green mirchi, finely chopped 1/2 cup coriander leaves, finely chopped Salt to taste Method: Mix all ingredients with water to the consistency of a thinner than usual dosa batter. When you pour the […]

Pasta dough

Many have asked me about making pasta at home and most think I have some fancy equipment to make it at home. They are truly surprised when they see what I use. So, tools of the trade: a fork a rolling pin a pizza cutter (or a razor blade!) and a coat hanger. Ingredients: – […]

Lemon pepper lentils

This is a French-Moroccan inspired dish that goes very well with creamy or rich dishes. Ingredients: – 2T olive oil – 1 onion, large, chopped fine – 2 cloves of garlic, minced – 1/2T cumin – 1t  ginger – 1t black pepper, coarsely ground – 1C lentils (I used the indian variety called masoor […]

Bhenga Gojju (aka Okra-yogurt "salad")

This is one of my favorite dish that is quick and easy to make and tastes delicious. Ingredients – 1/2lb Fresh Okra (please do not try this with frozen okra!) – 3C almond yogurt – 1t chilly powder – 1t mustard seeds – 6-8 curry leaves – 1T coriander leaves, chopped   Method Cut the […]

Meatless Phanna upkari (aka the spiciest Konkani dish you've ever tasted).

Again, if you like spicy, try this dish. The best part is that you can make it in 15 minutes flat with 6 ingredients! Ingredients: – 200g soy chunks (the original recipe calls for small fingerling potatoes, shrimp, clams or mussels) – 2 medium onions, finely chopped – 1 t mustard seeds – 2 T […]

Handcut pasta with meatballs and quinoa salad

For the ‘meat’balls: Ingredients  1/4 cup plain bread crumbs 1/4 cup chopped fresh flat-leaf (italian) parsley 2 eggs, beaten 1 tablespoon milk 1 tablespoon ketchup 3/4 cup grated Romano cheese 3/4 teaspoon kosher or sea-salt 3/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper 1 pound ground chik’n or veggie meat substitute —> I use the Lightlife […]

Cheese Stuffed Peppers

I got inspiration from the traditional Mexican Chili Relanos that are served with tomato sauce. I wanted to make something a bit healthier and as an appetizer.     This is a super quick dish that can be served within minutes! Ingredients 1-2 poblano or any large mild chili pepper such as banana pepper 2 […]
